Grant Award from CCLT will Boost Acquisitions Capacity

The California Council of Land Trusts (CCLT) recently awarded NCRLT with funding to increase the scale of land protections, and accelerate the pace of project completion.

At NCRLT, this support will be allocated toward north state jobs, increasing specialized, professional staffing incrementally to meet conservation agreement demand. The process of clearing a deed and title with conservation value protections is highly technical work requiring sustained effort to complete easement establishment. We will mentor new specialists through on the job training, then maintain staff knowledge, skills, and experience gained. Thereafter, Stewardship endowment funds support NCRLT's perpetual monitoring and management of each project to ensure conservation values are maintained, restored, or initiated.

The $127,030 award is part of $1M in funding to 11 land trusts as part of the Capacity Building Grant Program to support land trusts and their partners in advancing the goals of 30x30 and the Natural and Working Lands Climate Smart Strategy (NWLCSS), and in building and sustaining partnerships.

Land Trusts enforce legally-binding, perpetual agreements for conservation stewardship so we make logical partners for community non-profit organizations seeking goals that intersect with working and wild lands. Northern California Regional Land Trust maintains dialogue with partners and fellow land stewards in Butte Creek, Deer Creek, and the Sacramento River Floodplains. This funding will strengthen trust among partners whose constituents voluntarily agreed to complete land protection on their properties.

CCLT received 54 applications, with requests of almost $6 million for a $1.1 million pool of available funds. Grants were awarded in four categories: 1) Organizational Capacity Building, 2) Building and Sustaining Partnerships, 3) Strategic Planning for Natural and Working Lands Climate Smart Strategy & 30x30, and 4) Demonstration Projects. Generous support for this grant program is provided by the California Department of Conservation through the Climate Smart Lands Management Program.
