Community-supported for 30 years.
Our Mission + Vision
Our mission is to assist landowners, communities, and public agencies to voluntarily protect land and other natural resources. In collaboration with public and private partners, we see our contributions to this space as increasing the financial and technical resources available for the conservation of working and wild lands in Northern California; supporting a network of partners in advancing strategic conservation informed by North State communities and landscapes; and providing leadership and visionary strategies for land planning and protection. Our service area includes Tehama, Glenn, and Butte County, and stretches from the western slopes of the Sierra-Cascade Crest, across the Sacramento River Valley, to the eastern slopes of the North Coast Range. Within this approximately 6,000 square mile region, we prioritize the conservation of farms, ranches, and open space important to our region’s economic wellbeing, ecological health, and quality of life.
Our vision for the future is a world where well-planned communities, informed by meaningful stakeholder input, hold space for nature. We envision green spaces accessible to everyone. We envision children growing up under open skies and experiencing the thrill of holding a wriggling salamander, wading barefoot in an untamed creek, or watching flocks of migratory birds take wing from a nearby wetland. We envision salmon moving freely through cascading waterfalls to spawning grounds high in the Sierra foothills, fed by icy spring water. We envision farmers and ranchers being able to hand down a legacy of open land and viable livelihoods to their children and grandchildren, free from the pressure of encroaching development. And together with landowners, other mission-driven organizations, and public agencies, we work tirelessly to make this vision a reality.
