Land Protection
Where We Work
Since 1990, we have protected over 35,000 acres, primarily in Butte, Glenn, and Tehama County. This includes nearly 40 Conservation Easements and a Preserve on Lower Deer Creek Falls owned by the Northern California Regional Land Trust. We’re working to increase access to nature and recreation across our conservation portfolio, with 600 acres currently undergoing planning for increased public use. In evaluating where to invest our acquisition and fundraising efforts, we recognize three distinct priority areas for protection across our service region.
Prime Farmland
From olive groves descended from genotypes brought to the West by Spanish monks establishing the California missions to walnut orchards rooted in deep river loam, we protect lands that feed Americans.
Open Range
Wide open skies and pastoral scenes of calves frolicking across Blue Oak-dotted hillsides are roadside attractions in this part of the North State that we never want to disappear.
Wild Places
Rushing gorges where salmon fight their way upstream, towering forests, and wetlands alive with the calls of frogs and rasp of flitting dragonflies…these lands, once lost, are lost forever. We’re working to save them.
Soil Health Action Plan
NCRLT’s Soil Health Action Plan is made possible by support from American Farmland Trust and the National Agricultural Land Network.
